YOUR FIRST VISIT
WHAT TO EXPECT FROM YOUR FIRST VISIT
When you first come
to the office to discuss your disability or workers’ compensation claim,
you will probably be meeting with Mike Miskowiec, the attorney. We
normally schedule in office initial appointments on Tuesdays if
possible. This allows Mr. Miskowiec to spend the rest of the work week
working on clients’ cases. If you cannot come to our office in
Charleston, home visits and meetings away from the office can be
arranged as necessary.
Mr. Miskowiec generally spends about an hour with each
new client. He will update the information that was provided in your
initial email or phone call. Of particular importance will be your work
history, your medical history and decisions that have already been made
by Social Security or workers’ compensation. If your claim has been
denied and you have not yet appealed, he may prepare the necessary
appeal documents while you are at the office. He will also go over the
contract for representation and other forms and releases.
During your initial interview, Mr. Miskowiec will
discuss whether you need an attorney in your claim, what is the
likelihood of success and how long the appeal process will last.
WHAT TO BRING TO THE OFFICE
It is very helpful if you could
bring with you to your appointment:
1. Any documents or decisions issued by Social Security or the workers’
compensation agency.
2. Any medical records in your possession. (It is not necessary for you
to obtain copies of your medical records if you don’t already have
them).
3. A list of your doctors, with addresses and phone numbers if possible.
(Appointment cards are good for this).
4. A list of your current medications or the bottles so we can get the
names from the bottles.
